Grupo Energía de Bogotá to present a methodology to improve sustainability margins in the electric system
20 January 2017
Bogota D.C., January 20th, 2017. Grupo Energía de Bogotá (GEB) prepared a proposal aimed at improving security margins of power supply in Bogota, positively impacting on the reliability of the Colombian electric system.
This methodology, developed as part of the Smart Grids Project (Proyecto de Redes Inteligentes) and explained in the article “SVC-POD tuning methodology and application to a Colombian case”, intends to determine the parameters required for a proper performance of the Power Oscillation Damping (POD), which is contained in the Static Var Compensator (SVC) installed in strategic high-voltage substations (the case was applied to the SVC in the Tunal 230 KW substation).
The article, prepared by engineers of the group, namely, Camilo Andrés Ordoñez Medina – lead author − and Jaime Orjuela Vélez, with the support of Grupo de Energía de Bogotá, was chosen by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) to be presented in the Power and Energy Conference to be held in Texas, United States, on February 9-10th, 2017.
The document was subject to revision and approved by the IEEE, the engineers’ world professional organization dedicated to standardizing and advancing technical areas, which is present in more than 190 countries and has around 370,000 members worldwide.
Astrid Álvarez, GEB president, highlighted that “the Group is not only one of the best places to work, but also it’s a breeding ground for research and a benchmark for best practices on electric power and natural gas.”
