Bogotá, D.C., 20 September 2013.Empresa de Energía de Bogotá (EEB), headquarters to Grupo Energía de Bogotá, reiterates its commitment as a change agent and as a leader in promoting the improvement of social, economic and environmental conditions of the regions where it operates.
Within the framework of the United Nations “Business For Peace - B4P” platform launch that took place in New York, EEB´s CEO, Ms. Sandra Fonseca signed the declaration of support reiterating her commitment to the implementation of the Ten Global Compact Principles.
This leadership platform purports to enhance and deepen the actions undertaken by the private sector regarding their support for peace at the workplace, at the marketplace and in local communities.
Thus, EEB as a member of the aforementioned initiative, and by signing the support declaration, commits to three fundamental issues:
• Implementing the Ten Global Compact Principles in conflict affected and high-risk areas.
• Taking actions to promote peace, on its own account and in collaboration with other stakeholders.
• Dissseminating progress on these issues once a year.
Being part of this scheme translates into fostering a peaceful world, using as a basis the UN Guidance on Responsible Businesses. In EEB, this means continuing our path as a business that is an agent of change, that contributes to transforming conflict situations into spaces of sound and peaceful coexistence, specifically in areas where EEB undertakes its projects.
By doing this, we as a Company exhibit a behavior that is coherent with those objectives, contributing to the development of a better country and preparing social economic and environmental sustainable practices. We do not only base our actions on the Ten Global Compact Principles, but we also adopt measures to promote peace and generate development through Communication on Progress.
The initiative was signed during the UN Global Compact Leaders’ Summit 2013, which took place in New York under the theme “Architects of a Better World”.
Government representatives and world leaders participated in this event, which was chaired by the UN General Secretary, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, on issues that focus, among others, on climate change, water, education and labor conditions.
