Grupo de Energía de Bogotá supports electric transportation in Bogota

- GEB, through its company Codensa, supports energy solutions in large cities.
Bogota, June 5, 2017. The CEO of Grupo Energía de Bogotá (GEB), Astrid Álvarez, has highlighted the implementation of the first 100% electric articulated bus to arrive in the Colombian capital city, thanks to Codensa and Bogota Town Hall.
This bus is part of a pilot plan aiming at collecting relevant information in the process to renew the Transmilenio fleet. This project was implemented on the World Environment Day, and is part of the objectives of the district administration intended to reduce contaminating gas emissions.
In supporting this initiative, GEB’s CEO stated that the business group is committed to providing large cities with energy solutions. “Codensa, through Enel, our partner, has the required expertise to guarantee that this electric bus will transport people safely, and will generate a better environment in the city”, says Alvarez.
Codensa –which has worked over two years in this project, together with BYD (BuildYourDreams)– is part of GEB’s Urban Energy Solutions strategic group. This strategic group focuses on developing and operating the infrastructure necessary to meet electric power and natural gas demand in large cities.
The implementation of this pilot plan is a milestone since this is the world’s first articulated bus to operate. It will have a 160-passenger capacity, saving 60 percent of operating costs compared to traditional transportation, and will go, fully charged, through 173 miles.
