President of Guatemala visits works of PET-1-2009 Project

To drive development of the Expansion Plan for the Transport of Energy, PET 2009, Mr. Otto Perez Molina, President of Guatemala visited the San Agustin electricity substation located in the Progreso department, with the company of officials from TRECSA.
During the activity, the President emphasized the benefits offered by PET-1-2009 and its importance to achieve the country's social goals in the coming years. PET will increase reliability and quality of electricity services, minimizing failures that the system currently experiences (total or partial blackouts). In addition, it opens growth opportunities for the industrial sector, improving the rendering of public utility services, generating and driving the country's development.
This project represents the first step, so that in the near future, more and more communities gain access to the electricity service.
What is PET-1-2009?
PET-1-2009 works comprise the construction of 859 kms. of transmission lines, the enhancement of 12 existing substations and the construction of 12 new substations located in different departments in the country.
This project has been declared as urgent and of national interest, it is executed by the Government of Guatemala by TRECSA, as of the awarding of such bid on 20 January 2010 pursuant to Resolution 147 of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, which contemplated Electric Energy Transport System.
The performance of said project, includes the design, construction, rights of way, operation and maintenance of transmission works contemplated in hte Expansion Plan of the Energy Transport System 2008-2018.
