Thanks to Contugas, Ica is the First Decentralised Gas Energetic Region of Peru

  • With the presence of the President of Peru, Ollanta Humala, a subsidiary of Grupo Energía de Bogotá, began operations with the ICA regional pipeline having a length of 201 kilometers.

Lima, June 6, 2014-. Contugas, subsidiary in Peru of Empresa de Energía de Bogotá, holding company of Grupo Energía de Bogotá, successfully opened the Ica Regional Gas Pipeline, which will make this area in the first Decentralised Energetic Gas Region of Peru as will feature in an integral way with natural gas for households, businesses and industries to the regional level, improving the quality of life of the population and contributing to the progress of the region.

This achievement is the result of effort and work between the state, private enterprise, regional government, local authorities and population; and evidence that it is possible to bring the benefits of natural gas to the country. The Ica Regional Pipeline has demanded an investment of approximately USD $ 345 million invested by Contugas, and received funding from institutions such as the Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF) among others.

This work has been supervised by OSINERGMIN, which has all the authorizations and has been certified by Enbridge Technology, an international organization specializing in the construction of pipelines.

Contugas has prioritized the arrival of natural gas to households through which most families enjoy the benefits of this energy which is the social face of the process of natural gas massification, aligned to state policy.

During the construction process of the Ica Regional Pipeline and networks in urban areas, directly, has generated approximately 2,700 jobs and over 4,500 indirect jobs, the vast majority native ICA population.

In order that the massification to be successful, capacity improvement programs have been implemented in Ica region and currently a global responsibility program called "Gestores de Energía” is been in undertaken with the Regional Government of Ica, APROLAB II of the Ministry of Education and Contugas.

The beneficiaries of this program are teachers and students of technical colleges and institutes in the region and aims to meet the challenges of the massification process of changing the energy matrix to natural gas.

First Regional Pipeline for domestic consumption

The system is composed of a main gas pipeline network and its branches, operational centers, city gates, which operation of the system is geared to the safety and reliability of service following the recommendations identified as good practice in the industry and regulations.

This work is one of the largest in the gas sector which has been designed with sufficient capacity to meet demand:

• Households users.

• Shops.

• NGV service stations.

• Industrial market via GNC.

• Industries: Fishing, Power Generation, Petrochemical, among others.

Given the importance of this infrastructure during the opening event was attended by the President, Ollanta Humala; Minister of Energy and Mines, Eleodoro Mayorga; Minister of Labour, Ana Jara; Dra. Sandra Stella Fonseca, president of Group EB, holding company of Contugas; President of the Ica Region, Alonso Navarro; and accompanied representatives of local governments and major institutions that have contributed to make this work a reality.

President Ollanta Humala, said the decentralized regional pipeline Ica, is the beginning of the natural gas massification making this resource comes at a low cost to households. He added that this "is the beginning of what is cheap gas, the gas delivery will be at 14 soles monthly consumption."

He remarked that this initiative will be one of the great achievements of the Peruvian Bicentennial, which falls in 2021, and joined the national massification project, through pipelines that will reach all regions and cities.

The president also highlighted that this project generates capacities to help youth, strengthens the energy security of the country, which is an example of working together between private and public sector.

Meanwhile, Sandra Stella Fonseca, said that "the construction of the Ica regional pipeline, constitutes one of the gas works infrastructure of major importance in the country and whose direct benefits are to generate savings, convenience, safety and environmental protection which improves quality of life of the population and contribute to the progress and development of the Ica region."

Bruno Seidel, General Manager designated of Contugas also said that Ica, which has natural gas to provide to households, businesses and industries, will become more attractive for domestic and foreign investments which will contribute to the progress and development of the region.

Contugas is committed in less than a year to reach the first 31,625 families enjoy the benefits of natural gas and at an industrial level have already taken the first connections in the provinces of Pisco and Chincha.
