Grupo Energía de Bogotá remains fully committed to Mocoa
11 May 2017
Bogota, May 11, 2017. After the intensive management activities conducted by Grupo de Energía de Bogotá (GEB) in reconnecting electricity utility upon the avalanche of April 1, the company continues with its activities to ensure the performance of reliable services.
This effort is developed with the support of Upme (acronym in Spanish for Energy Mining Planning Unit) of the Ministry of Mines and Energy and Empresa de Energía de Putumayo. Upme is responsible for reviewing alternatives concerning new lands to install the new substation, which was affected by the avalanche.
The aim is to have the location decision made as quickly as possible, once completed the environmental license and premise acquisition processes, and after making sure that these new lands are the most appropriate areas for the mitigation of all kinds of risks.
After this process, the construction of the new substation will commence, which will guarantee reliable energy supply to thousands of people in the region.
It is note that GEB, through its CEO, Astrid Álvarez, deployed from the very first day of this tragedy a technician team for the reconnection of the energy services in the capital of Putumayo and over 10 municipalities that were left without electricity.
This titanic effort was performed in record time (less than 10 days) considering that Mocoa substation (built in 1995 and expanded in 2007 for incorporation into the National Grid) was affected (90%) and was the sole substation enabled to supply electricity to this region.
One of Grupo de Energía de Bogotá’s (GEB) major priorities is to ensure the performance of energy services as soon as possible and according to the highest quality standards.
