Grupo Energía de Bogotá announces new archeological findings in Peru
12 July 2017
Bogotá D.C., July 12, 2017. Grupo Energía de Bogotá (GEB), via the company Cálidda, found part of an 800 years old pre-Hispanic cemetery while performing pipeline laying works in the Chilca District, located 63 km to the south of the Peruvian capital, Lima.
The tombs found are shaped as circular pits sealed with flagstones and mud mortar and contained at least one individual in a seated position with arms and legs flexed. Similarly, other offerings were found, such as: metal fishhooks, stone weights (used in fishing nets) and wooden weaving instruments.
This complex funerary ritual also included offerings of young llamas and alpacas with very fine hairs, evidencing a high specialization in livestock farming and grazing.
Cálidda deployed an archeological team charged with researching and preserving all the material recovered from the tombs. This procedure was also supervised and accompanied by the Ministry for Culture of Peru, entity that received the recovered goods.
It is worth noting that Cálidda is the first private company participating in the program ‘Lima, City of Huacas (a Quechua word referring to sacred Inca locales)’, created by the Ministry for Culture of Peru to protect archeological pre-Hispanic monuments.
Due to its work in the protection and dissemination of the archeological patrimony of Lima and Callao, Cálidda was given the Luis Hochschild Plaut award in 2014 by the IPEA businessmen association. Thusly, GEB ratifies its commitment with the preservation and care of these findings which allow, through their study, to transmit the life and traditions of the Andean world.
