Empresa Energía de Bogotá awarded bid for Energy transmission projects in the coffee region

Bogotá, Colombia, 14 February 2012

The National Government, through the Ministry of Mines and Energy and the Energy Mining Planning Unit (UPME for its Spanish acronym) awarded on Tuesday, after a public bid, the energy transmission project Armenia 230/115 Kw. Empresa de Energía de Bogotá (EEB) was awarded the construction of the project as it offered more expected income during a 25 year term.

This company, which economic offer amounted to US$10.431.629, will be in charge of design, acquisition of supplies, construction, tests, operation and maintenance of related works of the new Armenia 230/115 Kw substation and the reconfiguration of the Hermosa Virginia line  230 Kw, through a double circuit, which approx length is 40 km to the opening point and connecting to the Armenia substation. The project is expected to start up in November 2013.

Mr. Mauricio Cardenas the Mines and Energy Minister expressed that this would represent a new injection of energy to the National Transmission System for the operating area of Caldas Quindío Risaralda, who added that with this project we can guarantee servicing the electricity demand in a safe and reliable manner, both for household users as for strategic areas for the future development of the region, among them industry and ecotourism.
