Grupo Energía de Bogotá joins the World Energy Day celebration
14 February 2017
- It’s been 120 years since electrical energy arrived in Bogota because of GEB.
The World Energy Day is celebrated on February 14 –a meaningful date to reflect on the relevance of energy for the development and quality of life of all of the world’s inhabitants.
In an increasingly changing world with increasingly greater challenges to generate clean energies from renewable sources, the efforts made by energy companies being responsible for the management of an energy matrix thought in terms of sustainable development of territories, have become particularly interesting.
120 years ago, Grupo Energía de Bogotá (GEB) envisioned bringing energy to Bogota for progress; and it is today one of the major players in the energy matrix in Latin America –being one of the few business groups with presence throughout the value chain through its three Strategic Business Groups, both in electrical energy generation, transmission and distribution and in natural gas transportation and distribution in Colombia, Peru, Guatemala and Brazil.
GEB holds a 23% market share in energy generation and keeps working on finding new renewable energy opportunities in countries in the energy matrix transition to this sustainable, low emission source.
Today, GEB is the leader in the execution of new expansion projects for the National Transmission System (STN, acronym in Spanish), with a 42.1% share represented by eight projects in 19 being currently executed. It also holds a 18.2% share in projects of the Regional Transmission System (STR, acronym in Spanish).
As regards the natural gas business, the Group holds 84.6% and 65.4% market shares in Colombia in natural gas transportation and distribution, respectively; while in Peru, it has presence in the distribution market with 71.3%.
Astrid Álvarez, Grupo Energía de Bogotá CEO, highlighted that: “On the World Energy Day we are celebrating that over these 120 years of history, Grupo Energía de Bogotá has contributed to Colombia’s growth and development as well as those of countries where it operates, becoming the major electrical energy and natural gas multilatina in the region to keep bringing comfort to millions of citizens”.
Grupo Energía de Bogotá will continue to expand its presence in the Latin American energy matrix, ratifying its lead through its three Strategic Business Groups: Urban Energy Solutions; Interconnection for Market Development; and Low Emission Generation.
