Grupo Energía de Bogotá - Profits Grew by 16.3% in 2014

  • Net profit of EEB for 2014 reached COP980,855 billion, growing by 16.3% when compared to 2013
  • Total EBITDA reached COP2.572 billion, up 44.8% when compared to 2013, mainly as a result of dividends declared in advance to EEB by non-controlled companies.  

Bogota D.C., 5 March 2015.Empresade Energía de Bogotá S.A. ESP (EEB), parent company of Grupo Energía de Bogotá (GEB), will submit to the consideration of its Shareholders Assembly, the 2014 year-end financial statements.

EEB’s net profit for the period January-December 2014 reached COP 980,855 million, growing by 16.3% vis-à-vis 2013. Consolidated operational revenues grew 17.7%, reaching approx. COP 2,305,548 million, generating operational profits amounting to COP 790,168 million, up 30% when compared to the previous period.

In EEB’s operational results, the natural gas transport business in Colombia operated by its subsidiary Transportadora de Gas Internacional S.A. ESP (TGI), continues its leadership in terms of results contributing with 78.2% of operational profits, followed by the natural gas distribution business in Lima, Peru developed by its subsidiary Cálidda, contributing with 10.7%. Also, other business segments showing dynamic growth were the electricity transmission business in Colombia, with COP 23,053 million (+86%), and the natural gas distribution in Peru, with COP 30,505 million (+56.3%).

Non-operational results decreased by 7.4% when compared to 2013, mainly due to growth in exchange loss by 186.6%, given the high component of indebtedness denominated in U.S. dollars the company has. 

Notwithstanding the foregoing, dividends declared to EEB by non-controlled companies (Emgesa, Codensa and Gas Natural) grew substantially by 73.4%. It’s worth to remember that EEB conducted the closing of its financial statements as of October 2014 and declared dividends to its shareholders amounting to COP 1.1 trillion, the highest amount ever declared in the company’s history. 

For the twelve-month period ended in 31 December 2014, EEB’s consolidated year-to-date EBITDA reached COP 2,572,071 million, representing an increase of 44.8% vis-à-vis 2013. In addition, at the closing of the year EEB recorded assets amounting to approximately COP 18,917,888 million, up 12.5% when compared to 2013.

In this regard, Ricardo Roa, CEO of Grupo Energía de Bogotá expressed his satisfaction with the results obtained and further stated:“EEB continues growing at a steady pace and providing benefits to its shareholders and the city of Bogota, which is evident by the results obtained and the dividends we have paid out. Furthermore, GEB holds an investment portfolio in important companies in the electric power sector, in which the following stand out, CODENSA S.A., EMGESA S.A., GAS NATURAL S.A., PROMIGAS S.A. and Electrificadora del Meta - EMSA and to a lesser extent ISA and ISAGEN. As of 2013, the Group renders advisory and engineering services in Guatemala and Peru through its affiliate EEB Ingeniería y Servicios. Also, in 2014 it created the company Empresa de Movilidad de Bogotá SAS E.S.P., affiliate company dedicated exclusively to developing electric power mobility projects.
