Grupo Energía de Bogotá revamps substations with high-end technologies

Bogotá, D.C., March 15, 2017. Grupo Energía de Bogotá (GEB) with a view to strengthening its operations and modernizing its infrastructure, undertakes the construction process of encapsulated substations with which the company aims to optimize space and minimize the landscaping impact by reducing dimensions in terms of area and volume.
Substations are facilities that allow setting voltage levels adequate for transmission and distribution of electric energy in rural areas, municipalities and cities. Substations can be either conventional or encapsulated. Conventional substations are those in which we commonly spot towers and cables arranged within the same batch and where air is used as insulation method, while encapsulated substations are those characterized by having a different gas-based insulation method and because the used area is remarkably lower when compared to conventional ones.
Nowadays, Grupo Energía de Bogotá, has seventeen substations throughout the country, out of which, twelve are conventional and five already feature this encapsulating technology: Guavio 230 kV, Circo 230 kV, Paraíso 230 kV, Alférez 230 kV and Armenia 230kV, which will be operational soon.
